God's Wonderful Love
Sunday January 27, 2008
And when Jesus had heard that John was delivered up, he retired into Galilee: And leaving the city Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capharnaum on the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim; That it might be fulfilled which was said by Isaias the prophet: Land of Zabulon and land of Nephthalim, the way of the sea beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles: The people that sat in darkness, hath seen great light: and to them that sat in the region of the shadow of death, light is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say: Do penance, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. And Jesus walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishers). And he saith to them: Come ye after me, and I will make you to be fishers of men. And they immediately leaving their nets, followed him. And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets: and he called them. And they forthwith left their nets and father, and followed him. And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom: and healing all manner of sickness and every infirmity, among the people. Matthew 4:12-23 (Douay-Rheims Bible)
Prayer Reflection
Dear Father your son caught a few fish himself and made them fishers of men as well. What about us in our time. Are we too, caught by Jesus and are we fishers of men also? I began to wonder then about those who go ice fishing or those who stand alone by the shore fishing. What do they think about as they wait for the fish to bite? Do they think of you dear Father and ponder the mystery of the universe? One would think fishers of fish are contemplatives when they fish alone. But we never know what they truly think about. Jesus, you came after these particular men because you knew what they were capable of, how they could draw people to you. When you touch our hearts dear Father, what are you asking of us to do for you? To go fishing and bring love and healing to those who are seeking to be caught by your love? You caught my heart and you have kept me in your living water. Like all the others who have been caught by the hook of love and mercy. Amen

Memorial of Saints Timothy and Titus, bishops
And they come to a house, and the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. And when his friends had heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him. For they said: He is become mad. Mark 3:20-21 (Douay-Rheims Bible)
Prayer Reflection
Dear Father your son went beyond himself to take care of the needs of those who came in search of him. They loved him so much that they followed him to the home he went to rest at. But those who were there could not eat in peace and thought Jesus mad because he still tended to those in need. He gives us quite an example that even though we have a set time to sit down and dine, there are times that ministering to others is more important than ourselves and our needs. He shows us how not to be selfish when others seek us out as they did him. Even to the point when our meals are interrupted or our routine. They thought him mad all because he cared enough to take care of those present and be with them. He didn't tell them to leave and come back after they've eaten, he listened to them and talked to them. He gave them love and his undivided attention. Dear Father how often do we do this ourselves when people come seeking us out at inopportune times, or interrupt us when we are eating. Do we stop and listen, or do we tell them to come back at a more convenient time. Where is the love then for neighbor. Dear Father help us to set the example that when we are interrupted and sought out by others while we eat, to be patient and giving of our time as Jesus did, even if it means going without eating for the sake of another. Amen

Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul, Apostle
And he said to them: Go ye into the whole world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized, shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall be condemned. And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name they shall cast out devils: they shall speak with new tongues. They shall take up serpents; and if they shall drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them: they shall lay their hands upon the sick, and they shall recover. Mark 16:15-18 (Douay-Rheims Bible)
Prayer Reflection
Dear Father it is a great hope that the world will believe in you and your Son Jesus. For them to be baptized by faith, that they may be saved. Your hope for mankind. The apostles were the first to be sent out to proclaim the good news, the first ones to receive the Holy Spirit and the one's who have done great things. We have throughout time come to imitate your Son, to do as he did. Bring healing, deliverance for many. Faith in you brings us hope that we too can go out into the world and bring many back home to you. Can we be your disciples too dear Father where we can do amazing things in your Sons name. For love and hope of the world. Amen

Memorial of Saint Francis de Sales, bishop and doctor of the Church
But Jesus retired with his disciples to the sea; and a great multitude followed him from Galilee and Judea, And from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and from beyond the Jordan. And they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, hearing the things which he did, came to him. And he spoke to his disciples that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him. For he healed many, so that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had evils. And the unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him: and they cried, saying: Thou art the Son of God. And he strictly charged them that they should not make him known. Mark 3:7-12 (Douay-Rheims Bible)
Prayer Reflection
Dear Father your son Jesus had quite a trying time while he lived with us on earth. The unclean spirits knew him instantly and proclaimed him your Son. His healing of many left him little room to move about, let alone have time to cleanse himself of what he took from those he healed. Those moments when Jesus would spend time alone with you to refresh himself and to give to you the many hurts, diseases, and unclean spirits. But he told the spirits not to make him known, as it wasn't his time as yet. Jesus did your will dear Father and so very many wanted to be close to him for the love and healing that permeated from him, just by a simple touch. In our own lives when someone briefly touches our arm as we are speaking or just in passing, doesn't it let us know they care enough to reach out and touch. These people we read about also cared for Jesus to want to touch him and be healed by his love. Many are seeking exactly the love only you and your son can give, that alone is a healing balm.

Tuesday January 22, 2008
And it came to pass again, as the Lord walked through the corn fields on the sabbath, that his disciples began to go forward, and to pluck the ears of corn. And the Pharisees said to him: Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? And he said to them: Have you never read what David did when he had need, and was hungry himself, and they that were with him? How he went into the house of God, under Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the loaves of proposition, which was not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave to them who were with him? And he said to them: The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath. Therefore the Son of man is Lord of the sabbath also. Mark 2:23-28 (Douay-Rheims Bible)
Prayer Reflection
Dear Father we've gotten to the point that we no longer rest on the sabbath. It's become just another day in the life of many. Granted, many follow the observances of attending Mass but it stops there. How many go off to work and earn a living because they don't have a choice. We have turned the sabbath and made it for us to continue being a busy people. But the sabbath was made for man for a purpose, to gather together in unity with one another and give back to God what he so lovingly gave us, life and a world to live in, in harmony with those we come across. To come together in prayer and thanksgiving, in praise for the love God bestows on us. But it is only, mind you, only one day that we take the time out of our busy lives and pray as a family united together. What a big family we have when we are all together to honor God and rest with Him. That alone shows our love for Him.
