God's Wonderful Love

 Shine On

Plot no evil against your neighbor, against one who lives at peace with you.Quarrel not with a man without cause, with one who has done you no harm. Proverbs 3:29

Reflection:
Ever wonder what type of world we have become, when we read or hear from the news sources someone killed for nothing over nothing. Or read of someone's plot against another. We read of this in today's first reading, yet we live it today as if it was written with us in mind.

These words are before Christ, yet Jesus came to fulfill much of what has been written. He came to save, to teach, to show us love. Why have we stopped learning his lessons then? Do we plot against him too? Maybe, considering we are living in such dark times. Where we have literally shut off the light from within.

We are always reminded of God's love, yet we often do nothing to change our world. We have many things that happen that show us where we err, but we do not change it. We have much plotting but we do not stop it. No one will admit when the plotting begins that what they are doing is wrong. We are the cause of having so much taken away from us.

Our lamps do not burn brightly, and what we do have is being taken away. When we love more is given, then the light from God that is within burns all the brighter. I much rather prefer being lit up like a lamp than being part of the darkness, what do you prefer?

 Once again

I took this past week off to do a retreat to start afresh after being accepted into the Third Order of Dominicans. After being a Postulant for a year, this acceptance now marks an entry as a Novice. I live my life in this world but begin to live according to the rule of St. Dominic.

 Ripples

Where do the wars
and where do the conflicts among you come from?
Is it not from your passions
that make war within your members?
You covet but do not possess.
You kill and envy but you cannot obtain;
you fight and wage war.
You do not possess because you do not ask.
You ask but do not receive,
because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
James 4:1-3

Reflection:
Good question Jesus asks the apostles. Where do wars come from? They don't just happen on their own. When we are unhappy with what we have, we tend to seek more. We are the originators, we fight within ourselves. We all know of the ripple effect. When we skip a stone across the water and watch the spread of ripples.

We are like this when we are unhappy with what we are given, so our unhappiness spreads within, and from there beyond to others. We not only wage war within ourselves but we fight with every one else too.I've been there, and I see the difference with God ever more present in my life.

How can we change if God doesn't interject himself in our life. How can we go from one extreme to another. Having faith is the foundation of our lives, knowing what is right and wrong and acting upon it is what God teaches us. When we know what is right we spread goodness. But on the other hand when we know what is wrong and do it anyway we cause the war that wages within to spread.

But we also forget we can change. After watching the ripples for a bit we see they stop and witness a calm upon the water, until we throw another stone to cause the water to ripple again. We as human beings can make a big difference in how those ripples spread. We can choose goodness to be part of this or continually choose to cause war and hurt to spread. It's our choice, but Jesus seeks for us to choose the good. Can we?

Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother
and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas,
and Mary Magdalene.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved
he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.”
Then he said to the disciple,
“Behold, your mother.”
And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
John 19:25-27

Reflection:
Our heavenly mother stands at the foot of the cross, and weeps the tears of utmost sorrow. Since Jesus loves his mother so much, he gives her to the apostles, and she takes them as hers.

A gesture of love, so his mother will not be alone in the world. But in the heavenly court Jesus is with her always. How is it her tears still come when she is in heaven, she should be happy.

She is our mother at the point that Jesus gave her to the apostles, she then became ours. What a beautiful gift Jesus gave of his mother. But she cries for us too, just as she did for Jesus on the cross. Her tears still fall because we have not reconciled ourselves to her Son and to God who are one with each other.

What a wonderful mother we have in Mary, that she is so concerned with our sins, to see us free from them. She is beautiful beyond belief, because her heart is filled with everlasting love for us as it is with God. Let us dry her tears once and for all. Let us be filled with the love of God that brings peace to all.

May her tears no longer be shed out of sorrow, but out of joy.

Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. John 3:16-17

Reflection:
Just as those in the first reading complained to Moses, I think dear God of the times I too, did the same. Without thought of your Son in those moments.

Today as I reflect upon your Words, I too recalled moments when my willfulness kept me away from the salvation your Son offered to us all. But I am deeply thankful for your saving grace through your Son.

Jesus you lifted up my eyes to gaze upon you in the Eucharist, a miracle at the time to see you present. I can say with my whole heart that God so loves the world to give us his only Son so that who believes in him might not perish but that the world might be saved through him.

If an insignificant person such as I can receive our Lord in the Eucharist in a special way, how much more he would do for others if only they would believe.
