God's Wonderful Love

 He Gave Thanks

Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks,
and distributed them to those who were reclining,
and also as much of the fish as they wanted.
When they had their fill, he said to his disciples,
“Gather the fragments left over,
so that nothing will be wasted.”
John 6:11-12

When Jesus fed the five thousand that day so very long ago, he showed us his first Euchristic miracle. He also showed to his disciples that they are to collect and gather all remaining fragments. We see this today at Mass, how very careful the Priest are to ensure that the bread fragments are not lost. After all this is where our Risen Lord is. Little did we know that he began showing us how he was going to feed us too. Not just in a physical way but in a very spiritual way.
What a glorious opportunity we all have to partake of this same miracle that Jesus performed long ago, that of being fed by him.

 Who Do We Obey?

We are witnesses of these things,
as is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.”
Acts 5:32

Difficult as it seems obeying God is not hard to do. We all go to work and obey our superiors, in order to do our jobs according to the rules of the company. The Ten Commandments are Gods rule and we are his employees. I look at it this way, I can go to work and do a job, obey the supervisor, Plant Manager, go to school obey my teachers, etc. Granted there are some who love to find fault with the system they work in. Same for those who go to school, there is always someone complaining about something they do not like. Then it must be that those who are chronic about where they work, etc have a hard time obeying God too. It is a hope that the Holy Spirit will breathe life into us all. So we may all obey the will of God.

 Come to the Light

For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God. John 3:20-21

This reminded me of someone who claimed to be spiritual, but did not believe in the Catholic Church. Yet this person spoke of a good God, but was very secretive about many things, in order not to be exposed. If there is one person like this, how many more are there in the world. We are not to judge others, but this example is what God's word is about. Many want to live in darkness, so when light comes near them they back away, afraid their works will be exposed. What is so fearful of the light anyway. It must be the fact that it is a call to change the way we have been living then.
And yes when we live in the light of truth, we are not afraid of what we do, for it is done in God.

 Be Steadfast

Be sober and vigilant.Your opponent the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in faith, knowing that your brothers and sisters throughout the world undergo the same sufferings. 1 Peter 5:8-9

How true too, what we undergo today another is also. Just think that today we have no food to eat, somewhere else in the world others also have no food to eat. We have no roof over our head to shield us from the elements, just think of the many around the world who also have no roof over their heads. We have no funds to pay our debts, just think of the people in the world who also suffer this way. If we think our sufferings are unique and we are the only ones who go through it, think again. There is so much suffering in our world, yet those who suffer in these ways are judged most harshly.
Today's reading we are told to be sober and vigilant. That our opponent is prowling around to devour someone, and that one is finding plenty to devour. Many do not resist, they give in to that one who devours. The loss of faith in God. Resist him, be steadfast in our faith. What is it about suffering, that could make or break a persons faith. It is the lure of something better but not that of God. It is seeking material comfort, not spiritual cleanliness. Many are those who suffer, who have found a deeper faith and perservere in spite of obstacles. So think for a moment, that what we are going through there are many more who suffer far worse around the world.

 Faith

Taken from the Morning Prayer of the Liturgy of Hours:

The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart. For if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Faith in the heart leads to justification, confession of the lips to salvation. Romans 10:8b-10

There's no two ways about it, Jesus is very near to us. It's up to us to believe and to make him known. But do we believe from our hearts, and not just giving lip service. The apostles and those who loved Jesus, such as his Mother, and many others who followed him, have given testimonies of faith. Not just faith in what Jesus has done, but faith in his rising from the dead. Their faith is in God. This faith is what gave them the strength to proclaim and confess from their lips the truth of God's word made flesh.

How often have we felt extreme joy in our faith but kept it to ourselves. Yet we hear something worth repeating and off we go. Are we that ashamed of our faith then. In order for us to live we need to live in the Spirit of God, in the belief that his Son died and rose, to confess not just from the lips this truth, but from our heart to. I'm sure many know of faith in those they love. Faith in a job, faith in parents, faith in spouses, friends, in each other. Put that faith in God too, it's amazing what faith in God does for a person.
