God's Wonderful Love

 Good Friday

But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

Jesus suffered deeply for our transgressions. Since the beginning of man, our sins have marred us. Jesus came to free us, yet for the next 2000 years, we have shown that we are free, we have followed, but we continue to sin. Today, we are recalling the Passion of our Lord, who underwent such torture, so we would not know it ourselves. I am grateful that we are freed from this, yet my heart hurts for what He did for us. Do we cry rivers of tears for what he has gone through for us? Do we change, so his way will not be so painful. Do we even understand the importance of his Death? The significance. He would die for each one of us, and for many it is so very difficult to believe this, yet it is true. He would die for us, again and again until we finally got it. Glory to God

 The Garden

Tonight I wait with you in the garden, where you pour your heart out to our Father. Spending these moments with you in the hour you need me most is my joy, nothing is too much for you. I cry with you, for what you are doing for the sake of the world. How frightened you are, that you sweat blood, just so we may be free. Dear Jesus, I offer to take your place so you will not suffer for my benefit. Selfish person that I am, I do not want to see any harm come to you or for you to suffer the pains humanity inflicts. My God, soon they will come to take you away, and do the most horrendous acts upon you, and I am helpless to take your place. Is this love then Lord, that I would willingly go in your place, just as you are doing this for me. Recordare (remember) I am with you always, for you have embedded yourself within my heart. Tonight as the world sleeps, I am with you in the garden.

 His Supper

Tonight as I attend class, it will not be hard for me to concentrate on school and Our Lord's Supper. As I will be in thought with many who will participate in tonight's celebration. One of the joys of loving God is the ability to participate with all my heart. I think this is what Jesus teaches us to do, to be a part of him always. Tonight many will witness this act of love, please when we go and celebrate this evening, put our thoughts on a moment in time, as if we were there, and witness this gift of selfless love. When the feet are washed imagine Jesus humbly washing ours out of love for us. When we partake of his bread, imagine the life he is about to give, all for love of us, so that we may know the pulse that beats in a small wafer, the source of life. When we partake of the wine, think of him on this evening and the cup of love that overflows to renew us. Tonight as we listen, let Jesus show us his love in the Gospel, that was left for us to know the truth of his love.

 HOLY THURSDAY

For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. 1 Corinthians 11:26

Today the Churches celebrate a special feast, Jesus' Last Supper. Where he teaches us about the truth of love.

We recall today Jesus kneeling at the apostles feet and washing them, showing them that to love, we are to serve each other. Today we witness the selfless giving of our Lord.  He performs this special act of love to show us his care. I witness this in my family with my parents, where my mom and dad would wash and tend each others feet when they were ill. I did this too when my dad was in the hospital, helping wash him, but also washing the feet. As I write this the memories of witnessing this act of love to serve each other is tremendous.

After he has done this we witness a birth in our Liturgy that we know of today. The birth of the celebration of Bread and Wine. Today Jesus asks us to believe that this bread is his body, just as he asks us to believe that the wine is his blood.   He broke bread with the apostles to give them a very special way of  reminding them that he will be with them in this significant way. That they are to pass this down from generation to generation. Today we have a wafer that is the Lord's body, it is given in memory of Jesus. Today's celebration is a birth of the Eucharist, where on Easter morning this birth becomes a reality. The Last Supper is not just symbolic it is real, the breaking of bread is not just symbolic it is real. His presence is in this act of love is real. Glory to God for giving us a living memory before he gives his life up for our salvation.

 Wednesday of Holy Week

The Lord God helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced. Isaiah 50:7

God does help us, but we are too busy living a different life to notice. The only time we pay attention is when we do something to seek his help.

He helps us in so many ways, that are too numerous to count. When we don't have God in our lives, we tend to be ashamed. We side with those who ridicule, hurt, judge, bully others. Don't we walk away from situations where someone is ridiculed after laughing with them and shake our heads and wonder why we did that. It is in those little moments  that we are guided to learn that what we did was wrong.

The Lord God helps us,  this is what he does when we attempt to disgrace others. He nudges our conscience when we do wrong. We end up not disgracing ourselves when we heed His help. After all aren't we the ones who look silly for our actions, when we get angry, persecute others, judge them, bully them, ridicule them.
